So why have we rather randomly called ourselves “Moo” Bookkeeping? … (TL;DR: We’re not actually obsessed by cows!)
We named our business after our friend, Mary – who was more affectionately known as “Moo”. We met back in Year 7 (many years ago now!) whilst playing in the school Orchestra. From that moment on we tortured the school yard by singing our “version” of Whitney Houston – ‘I’m Every Woman’. I’m sure to this day we sounded amazing!
Mary then moved away during our latter school years and (this being long before the advent of mobile phones) we unfortunately lost contact.
Luckily in the year 2000, ‘Friends Reunited’ launched and we got back in touch. Two weeks later we were off on holiday together. We danced (a lot), fell over (a lot), giggled (a lot more), but also looked after each other – and remained as thick as thieves from that moment on.
Sadly, we lost Moo in 2020 but she has stayed in our hearts ever since and I can still hear her laughter. If a tune she loved (and I hated) now comes on the radio, happy memories are rekindled and make me smile.
Having spent many years working at an Accountancy firm, I finally decided to take the plunge and set up my own bookkeeping business. Moo would have been first in line with words of encouragement such as “You go girl!”, and “Just do it, you’ll be amazing!”.
So, whilst deciding on a name for my new company and website, I couldn’t think of anything better than a fitting tribute to Mary. In 2024, ‘Moo Bookkeeping’ opened for business, and the rest – as they say – is history!
Hopefully she doesn’t mind me using her name – though I’m quite sure she will be looking down with a big, cheeky grin on her face!
